Critical Theory in any of its forms has no place in our schools, and I will fight to keep it out at all costs. This includes CRT, CQT, SEL, and every other initiative pushed by outside special interest groups.
Marxist prinicples have no place here, and Critical Theory is a fundamental component of this.
We need to stem the loss of teachers and other staff to neighboring districts in the upstate. Retention of qualified educators should be prioritized, and proper resources devoted to their success.
A respected teacher is an effective teacher.
District 2 grew at a larger pace last year than any other Spartanburg district. This massive growth does require additional spending, but I intend to verify that the money is properly spent and prioritized.
Our school district must be properly funded, but with funding comes responsibility.
My goal is to keep our schools open and properly staffed, and for students to be given every opportunity to effectively learn the fundamentals. Neither students nor educators should be handicapped by special interest groups with their own agenda, and neither should they be used as pawns to push a political ideology. Parents should have the right to educate their children in matters of opinion, and educators should be freed from such a burden so they can teach what students really need to learn.
I believe in a balance between individual liberty and individual safety. I don’t believe in blanket mandates, but students and staff must be protected - both from physical interactions and disease outbreaks.
The safety of every student and staff member is paramount to an effective education.
