SHAPING STUDENTS' LIVES

What shapes Matt Schubeck?

About me:

  • Although I was personally born and raised in Michigan, I can actually trace my family's ancestry back to Charleston, SC before the Revolutionary War.  While I moved to the Palmetto State in 1986 by order of the USAF, it was my personal choice to stay in South Carolina for the last 40 years.

  • I am happily married to my beautiful bride Sally, and I helped raise three wonderful children - Kristin, Kara and Hunter.  I have 3 beautiful granddaughters and another on the way, making me one proud "Girl Papa."

  • My history and family relationships shape my life to this day.

About my experience:

  • I attended the University of South Carolina/Coastal Carolina College for a B.S./Business Admin degree (before it became a separate university), and I've received dozens of specialized, technical certifications over the last 35 years.

  • I am an honorably-discharged veteran of the U.S. Air Force having worked on a variety of planes, from fighter jets to cargo and transient aircraft.

  • I have spent the better part of 3 decades in Information Technology, initially repairing and later managing IT for multiple banks, corporations, churches, local and county governments, state and federal agencies, military installations, and even NASA on the Space Shuttle Program.

  • My education and experience shape my worldview.

About my values:

  • I'm proud of my Christian faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • I believe in the absolutism of moral truths, those on which our great country was founded: that all people are created by God and created equally, and that individual liberty should extend to everyone equally as well - regardless of race, sex, economic status, or any other immutable characteristics.

  • I prefer facts and logic to emotion.  I do not believe in revisionist history, but in the accuracy of all details.

  • I believe we have a personal duty to help protect the innocent and the vulnerable, especially the children, and will stand for them at every opportunity.

  • In other words, my values shape every decision I make.
